Who Are We?

Scallywag Air was born out of a passion for aviation and the opportunity to share flight in its purest form with as many people as possible.

Owner Chip Ferguson is an Alaskan bush pilot and owner of world famous Alaska Rainbow Lodge. After attending Texas A&M in Galveston, he decided to make the island his off season home. A calling to work in aviation year round lead to the idea for Scallywag Air and the acquisition of our two beautiful Waco biplanes.

There isn’t a better way to explore the air over the gulf coast!

Scallywag Air pilot and red YMF

Emma Herrington, originally from northeast Texas, first started flying at the age of 2 with her father, an aircraft mechanic, shop owner, and private pilot. It’s the family business! She began training at 15 in a 1946 clipped-wing Taylorcraft. Since then, she has gained experience and hours in several tailwheel aircraft; her favorite a SuperCub. Emma also grew up turning wrenches, earning over 1800 hours of mechanic time. She is passionate about general aviation and excited to be your pilot for our beautiful Waco YMF-5!

Nathan Featherston, a recent IBC (Islander By Choice), took his first flight in a Cessna 140 and began his career in the skies 8 years ago, training in a Cessna 172. Since then, he has pursued his love of aviation through various ratings and spends his summers as a commercial float pilot in a deHavilland Beaver for clients in Alaska. For Nathan, flying is the ultimate freedom, where he is always learning and honing new skills. He is especially drawn to biplanes because they are beautiful, and he loves flying an airframe that was designed in the early days of aviation.

Ryan Powell comes to us from Bozeman, MT. Growing up as the son of a Coast Guard aviator, he frequented air shows and the Reno Air Races, where his obsession with warbirds took hold. As a young adult, Ryan worked in emergency medicine as an instructor and provider to fund his way through flight school. He holds a commercial pilot certificate for single/multi engine airplanes, float planes, helicopters, and instrument flying. Ryan has flown over 30 types of aircraft, including WWII bombers. When he’s not in Galveston or Bozeman, he flies Phenom jets conducting organ transplant flights across the U.S.
